DTC Troubleshooting: P0106 (5)

DTC P0106:  MAP Sensor Range/Performance Problem

NOTE: If the DTCs listed below are stored at the same time as DTC P0106, troubleshoot those DTCs first, then recheck for P0106.

P0121, P0122, P0123: Throttle position (TP) sensor
P0171, P0172: Fuel system
P0221, P0222, P0223: Accelerator pedal position (APP) sensor
P0506, P0507: Idle control system malfunction

1.Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

2.Do the DTC CLEAR in the CLEAR MENU with the HDS.

3.Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 3,000 rpm (min-1) with no load (in neutral) until the radiator fan comes on, then let it idle.

4.Test-drive under following conditions.
  • Engine Coolant temperature more than 70°C (158°F)
  • Engine speed 2,500 rpm (min-1) or more
  • Accelerator pedal position 14 % or more

5.Monitor the OBD STATUS for DTC P0106 in the DTCs MENU with the HDS.

Is it FAILED?


YES - Go to 6.


NO - If it is PASSED, intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the MAP sensor and the ECM. If it is NOT COMPLETED, go to 3 and recheck.


6.Turn the ignition switch OFF.

7.Replace the IAT/MAP sensor.

8.Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

9.Do the ECM RESET in the CLEAR MENU with the HDS.

10.Do the ETCS learn procedure.

11.Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 3,000 rpm (min-1) with no load (in neutral) until the radiator fan comes on, then let it idle.

12.Test-drive under following conditions.
  • Engine Coolant temperature more than 70°C (158°F)
  • Engine speed 2,500 rpm (min-1) or more
  • Accelerator pedal position 14 % or more.

13.Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs in the DTCs MENU with the HDS.

Are any Temporary DTCs or DTCs indicated?


YES - If DTC P0106 is indicated, check for poor connections or loose terminals at the MAP sensor and the ECM, then go to 1. If any other Temporary DTCs or DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated DTC troubleshooting.


NO - Go to 14.


14.Monitor the OBD STATUS for DTC P0106 in the DTCs MENU with the HDS.

Is it PASSED?


YES - Troubleshooting is complete.n


NO - If it is FAILED, check for poor connections or loose terminals at the MAP sensor and the ECM, then go to 1. If it is NOT COMPLETED, go to 11 and recheck.
