DTC Troubleshooting: P0444 (92)

DTC P0444  EVAP Canister Purge Valve Circuit Open

1.Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

2.Do the DTC CLEAR in the CLEAR MENU with the HDS.

3.Turn the ignition switch OFF.

4.Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

5.Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs in the DTCs MENU with the HDS.

Are DTC P0444 indicated?


YES - Go to 6.


NO - Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the EVAP canister purge valve and the ECM.n


6.Turn the ignition switch OFF.

7.Disconnect the EVAP canister purge valve 2P connector.

8.Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

9.Measure voltage between the EVAP canister purge valve 2P connector terminal No. 1 and body ground.

 

Is there battery voltage?


YES - Go to 10.


NO - Repair open in the wire between the EVAP canister purge valve and the No. 16 (7.5A) fuse in the under-dash fuse/relay box, then go to 18.

10.At the EVAP canister purge valve side, measure resistance between the EVAP canister purge valve 2P connector terminals No. 1 and No. 2.

 

Is there about 30-34 W at room temperature?


YES - Go to 11.


NO - Go to 16.


11.Turn the ignition switch OFF, and wait 10 seconds.

12.Reconnect the EVAP canister purge valve 2P connector.

13.Connect the ECM test harness and the test pin box to the wire harnessonly, not to the ECM.

14.Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

15.Measure voltage between test pin box terminal No. 55 and body ground.

Is there about 5 V?


YES - Go to 23.


NO - Repair open in the wire between the ECM connector No. 3 terminal No. 26 (test pin box terminal No. 55) and the EVAP canister purge valve, then go to 18.

16.Turn the ignition switch OFF.

17.Replace the EVAP canister purge valve.

18.Reconnect all connectors.

19.Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

20.Do the ECM RESET in the CLEAR MENU with the HDS.

21.Do the ETCS learn procedure.

22.Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs in the DTCs MENU with the HDS.

Are any Temporary DTCs or DTCs indicated?


YES - If DTC P0444 is indicated, check for poor connections or loose terminals at the EVAP canister purge valve and the ECM, then go to 1. If any other Temporary DTCs or DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated DTC troubleshooting.


NO - Troubleshooting is complete.n


23.Substitute a known-good ECM.

24.Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs or DTCs in the DTCs MENU with the HDS.

Are any Temporary DTCs or DTCs indicated?


YES - If DTC P0444 is indicated, check for poor connections or loose terminals at the EVAP canister purge valve and the ECM, then go to 1. If any other Temporary DTCs or DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated DTC troubleshooting.


NO - Replace the original ECM.
